Researchers Reveal: “There is Another World Under The Ice of Antarctica”

Recently, a group of experts claimed that there is a hidden world lying under frozen Antarctica. Researches discovered huge “wetlands” 2700 feet below the ice of western Antarctica.

This discovery was undertaken thanks to the Whillans Ice Subglacial Access Research Drilling (WISSARD) project, funded by the National Science Foundation. Experts are close to discovering what exactly lies under the surface of this mysterious and frozen continent.

They affirm that Lake Whillans, they lie under 2700 feet of ice, is actually very similar to a “wetland”. Research is hopeful that further investigation will allow them to figure out how sea levels rise and how ice responds to global warming.

It seems that the lake is periodically drained into the ocean through some channels, nevertheless, there is not enough energy in order to transport the sediments. Scientists were baffled when they discovered that the water reserve of the ocean has the ability to alter the biogeochemistry of the lake.

It is really important to keep investigating since in ancient times Antarctica was a tropical area covered by forest and featured a diverse fauna. So this would be a good chance for us to discover interesting aspects of the past of this territory.
